Hey there,
Depends on the virus.
Try to fix it first.

Then try to prevent it in the future.

Okay, so if you can not save your computer, get ready to save your files. Do you have a cdrom burner? Burn a cd. Do you have an up to date comptuer? If so, you can get a 1 gb thumb drive from most any store, for about $20-$30 that you should be able to put most of your files.
If you are a hard core file saver, like picture and videos, you might want to get an $70-$100 external USB hard drive (300GB or better) and back up your files to it.
In any case BACKUP, BACKUP, BACKUP! A L W A Y S BACKUP!

Not necessarily. All programs have an exe file all that is, is an executable file to load the program. As it is such a commonly used file extension a Trojan can be buried in it. So when ever you download anything always run a virus scan on it before you do anything. Never open any file you download without first scanning it to be safe.

I suggest that you try to carryout system restore to a day previous to the day when there was no virus or any problems. It may be a few weeks or months back. You have to decide the date. Detailed instructions are posted at http://fixit.in/systemrestore.html
The problem is likely to be solved. Then,You insatll a standard antivirus soft ware such as Norton, AVG , Avast ( free antivirus software and Ad-aware, Ewido ( free spyware removers). You can download free softwares at
http://fixit.in/antivirus.html and http://fixit.in/spywareremover.html
