Well, I was was told not to eat sliced deli meat or soft cheeses. Also, you should limit your intake of fish to once or twice a week and check on the mercury content of whatever fish you do eat (shrimp and tuna usually have relatively low mercury content).

Plus, as I'm sure you know, you shouldn't smoke, drink alcohol, have much caffeine or take many over-the-counter medications.

I'm sure you can get a comprehensive list from a local OBGYN.

Some of the items listed here (such as avoiding microwaves and electric blankets, fish, etc.) are controversial. Some studies have shown they are dangerous.

You Should Avoid Fish - Fish concentrate methylmercury, which is known to affect the developing child's brain.

Cheese - it is only mould-ripened cheese that should be avoided i.e. cheese that has a blue vein in it or the type of skin or crust that is found on cheese such as brie or camembert.

Eggs - you only need to avoid raw or undercooked eggs.

All salad dressings that you buy or such as mayonnaise will have been made using pasteurised egg and are therefore quite safe. Cook eggs until the yolk and white are not runny any more. Be careful about eating 'home-made' products such as chocolate mousse which may contain raw egg.

• Paté - all paté, whether made from meat, fish or vegetables should be avoided unless it is labelled pasteurised or UHT.

Fish - pregnant women should avoid shark, swordfish and marlin, and limit tuna to no more than two tuna steaks a week (weighing about 140g cooked or 170g raw) or four medium-size cans of tuna a week (with a drained weight of about 140g per can). This is because of the levels of mercury in these fish. At high levels, mercury can harm a baby's developing nervous system.

FDA recommends you not eat raw or undercooked eggs, meat, fish. Also eating fish that contains high amounts of mercury (shark, swordfish, king mackerel, and tilefish) should be avoided. Cold cuts and hot dogs may contain listeria as well as unpasteurized, soft, or unripe cheeses (brie, feta, bleu cheese, muenster) and should be avoided. The FDA also recommends that you do not drink herbal tea or take herbal supplements during pregnancy without your doctor's approval because some herbs can be harmful to a developing fetus. Hope this helps.

"Eating safely

Pregnancy can make you relatively 'immunosuppressed' which means minor infections can be more severe. To avoid such infections, follow these rules:

* Cook meat thoroughly and wash all fruit and vegetables before eating, to avoid infection with toxoplasmosis, an organism that can affect your baby.
* If you must change the cat litter tray or do any gardening, wear gloves as toxoplasmosis is also found in cat faeces. Keep cats away from food preparation areas.
* Avoid mould-ripened soft cheeses such as brie or camembert, blue-veined cheeses such as stilton. All are associated with listeria, which can lead to premature birth and miscarriage. You should also avoid mould-ripened goats' and sheep's milk cheeses, such as chèvre, although hard cheese made from these, for example halloumi and feta, should be safe
* Avoid pâté, for the same reason.
* Make sure all ready-made foods are piping hot throughout before eating, as they are also a listeria risk.
* Drink only pasteurised or UHT milk, which has had harmful germs destroyed.
* Only eat eggs if they're hard-boiled or scrambled, to avoid salmonella infection.
* Don't eat liver and liver products while pregnant, as they contain high levels of vitamin A, which can be harmful to your baby.
* Avoid peanuts and peanut products when pregnant or breastfeeding if you, the baby’s father, or the baby’s brother or sister, have a history of allergic diseases or conditions such as eczema, asthma and hayfever."

You can eat pretty much eveything you normally eat except for hot dogs, soft cheeses, or luncheon meat unless cooked to steaming to prevent getting listeriosis.

Anything that has mercury in it like sword fish and tuna. I think that you can have small amounts of it but if you know it could be dangerous than why chance it, right? Ask your ob and see and what they say, good luck
