I thought it was more of a rip off of star Wars. Why? Let's count the ways..
1. The main hero is a farmer, wants to get away because friends/relatives are also leaving, only family he knows gets killed
2. Local "crazy, old man" rescues hero, explains his destiny
3. Hero attempts to rescue cute heroine
4. The "rebellion"
5. Local "crazy, old man" dies near end doing something heroic
6. Big creature that one person can understand
I had more thought of when I saw the movie, but that's what I remember right now

Apparently you don't know there are a whole series of Eragon books. It's not a play on the word dragon because there is no "d" in it, and even if it was, so what? The books have been very popular, just like Harry Potter. Are you a film critic? Are you a screen writer? Are you a director, or an actor? Probably not. So don't criticize. I haven't seen this movie yet, but plan to at some point simply because I love dragons.

It is very much like Lord of the Rings. Eragon sounds like Aragorn. It has the same basic story line, good VS. evil, too. And the impossible hero. in Eragon, a farm boy becomes the hero in Lord of the Rings, a hobbit is the hero.

I liked it, and I don't think actors the size of John Malkovich, Jeremy Irons and Robert Carlyle are in need of the money.

It's based on a book that was written by a 17 Year Old. In my opinion, if it wasn't for the fact that the kid was 17 when he wrote it, it probably would have never gotten as much attention as it did.
