If we're talking about cows, chickens, lambs, calfs, etc than the answer is of course no...

But if we're discussing man's relationship with his pets then the answer could be yes:

Milan Kundera
'The love of a man and a woman is a pri ori inferior to that which can exist (at least in the best instances)in the love between man and dog..it is a completely selfless love. We do not ask anything of animals: we do not ask them to love us back and they do not demand to be loved. We do not wonder if they love someone more than us. Love for dogs is voluntary. No one forces us to love them. We accept pets as they are and do not try to make them over in our image. The reason we train them is not to transform them, but to provide them the elementary language enabling them to commuicate and live together...
..Because only animals were not expelled from Paradise. The love between dog and man is idyllic. It knows no conflicts, no hair-raising scenes; it knows no development. (Pets) give us a life based on repetition and this is all they expect from us. But human time does not turn in a circle it runs ahead in a stright line. That is why man cannot be happy: happiness is the longing for repetition."

Animals live in the now.
They could careless about being friends.
Once we get that Disney-HappyFeet mentality out of our brains we might be able to treat them like animals and not human babies which they are not. Nobody catches on to this fact until someone gets killed or maimed by one of our furry 'friends'.
Then they always blame the human for mistreating when might be that the animal is just being itself.

No, people abuse animals. Guess Ive been watchin to much animal planets' Animal Cops shows lol. I feel bad for the ones I see. How awful to think you have a good loving home when really its the pits, until you do finally get into a good loving home then your not use to it. AHHHHH why must people be sooo mean?

Pets if treated right are better to us then more ways then one. They would even risk their life for us. L don't know about all pets but l do know dogs if treated right are better friends to us. L have a chihuahua that warns a member of the family when they are going into a seizure.

We are far better. Even if it only happens in some cases, we are the only species who sometimes refuse to kill out of compassion. Every action in the animal world (even cute household pets) is motivated by cold, hard instinct. They will kill if it helps them.

yes and no...
we are not very good to our food animals
and some people are certainly not good to their pets

birds are typically housed in cages that fit our homes more than they accomodate the flight needs of a bird
hamsters and other rodents often have small boring cages
fish.. soooo many fish die in the pet fish trade its amazing its even legal.. I guess most people dont really care about dead fish...
dogs and cats.. would you let your 2 year old kid play outside unsupervised like many people do with their pets... just "trust" them to stay off the road...
