You will certainly need malaria tablets - see your local health department and the CDC web pages for any other vaccinations that may be required. I had to have yellow fever, typhoid, hepatitis and meningicoccal. I also took the antimalaria tablets. As for Mombasa, it is on the coast which is the Eastern side of the nation. I don't know off the top of my hhead where Kikambala is. They may say that that some of these vaccinations are optional, but if I were you, I'd get them all. An extra shot or two is a whole lot nicer than the diseases themselves. I absolutely loved Kenya and am quite envious. I hope that you have fun.

Yes you will definitely need them. Mombassa is actually an island in the south east of kenya close to the Tanzanian border. Because of its proximity to water mosquitos and malaria are very common.
You will need Larium, Malerone or Doxycycline, the latter is probably the best with least side effects. You need to start 2 weeks before you go.
As another respondent mentioned you can buy them cheaply in Kenya and they are just as reliable.
If you are female and on the pill then these tablets will stop it working - beware!!

Yes as everyone else says, you DO need to take Malaria profelactics. As to which, you will need to either see your doctor or the Tropical Desease Hospital in London who can advise as to the best ones.
Kikambala is on the North coast of Mombasa going towards Kilifi. See the link I have entered below.
Be safe, do not flash valuables around, try to take as few valuables as possible, less temptation for the poor locals!!
Have fun and enjoy the beauty.

Check with your Public Heath department to see if they have a travel clinic within their Immunization program. You can usually get a consultation with a highly trained RN who will give you all the shots that you are receommended. You will also get a certificate for travel, kind of like your kids immunization records, to keep with your passport. The exam is usually around $50 and the shots are pretty reasonable. Many require more then one dose, so it is best to prepare ahead of time. Also you might have to go to your regualr dr to have the malaria scrip written, not all clinics have them

you can get started on antimalarial pills from where you are now, but you can buy them SUPER CHEEP at any pharmacy in kenya without a perscription.... so save money and buy them there. mombasa is pretty hot, lots of mosquitos so i would not risk going without the meds there.

Please start taking them immediately. The emergency ones don't work very well.
