you need to contact your internet service provider. If you have DSL you likely use a PPPOA or PPPOE internet connection and will have to put the username and password into the router. If you are using a cable internet provider, like comcast, you are most likely using a dynamic IP connection that does not require a username or password. These connections are selected in the routers configuration menu.

I'm presuming you bought it second hand, otherwise you'd have the password from the manual. Google the model number or the router and find the manual, it'll tell you in there how to set it back to factory defaults

what had in mind wont help you, so the only other way is to phone bt and ask them for the password or ask them for another one.
