Most of modern day Mexican cuisine is derived from the Aztecs, Mayans, and other Native American peoples of Mexico. In addition, widely-used crops such as corn, beans, chili pepper, chocolate, and vanilla were first cultivated in Mesoamerica. The turkey was also domesticated in ancient Mexico.
The Incas and other Andean peoples of South America domesticated the guinea pig and the llama. They first cultivated potatoes, peanuts, and other crops, including a plant called coca, which is used in Coca Cola and in coccaine. They invented jerkey, which is a word from the Inca language.
