I have an antique post box that I would like to use for storage, unfortunately even the smallest bin boxes (inventory boxes used for small items like screws and nails) are too big. I thought perhaps I could make my own but I'm unsure what material to use for the frame. Balsa, foamboard, cardboard, something else? And how to cover it? Decoupage, stapled material or paper, paint etc.? Thanks.

You don't need to build anything you can go the your neighborhood dollar store and buy something that will work fine.

this is an interesting question, but it requires some more info. how big is the post box? You could look for old wooden boxes that were used for shipping various types of products (think of old coke crates) they could be cut down to fit your needs rebuilt with small finish nails then coated with a clear varnish that will seal the antique look there are also old cigar boxes that could be cut with a knife, then glued to a size that works for you. i would also varnish to protect the antique look.

card board is going to work best. Experiment to get the easiest way to assemble, you could the decoupage, paint stain, color them or leave them brown. I would assemble with elmer's glue and hold them together with masking tape.
