My friend has become this huge loser. All he wants to do is smoke pot and play video games all day. He is 24. I used to look up to him when I was younger. I'm 18. When he was 16 and I was 10 I wanted to be like him. He got really good grades in school and was going to go to college. Then he graduated and couldn't afford to go to college. His parents were going to pay but then they couldn't afford it. He got a bad job and started hanging out with these losers. I have tried to help him for the past 4 years. He just doesn't care anymore. I don't want to be his friend anymore. What should I do?

Tell him to straighten up,or he looses you as a friend man, if he doesn't you don't need him.

I is good on your part, that you do not want to end up a loser. You should be proud of yourself for that alone. However, it does not help your friends ways any at all. I know you hate to end the friendship, but 4 years is a long time, and if you have not helped him by now, you may not be able to. He may be so far along that he needs more help. I would say never give up, but on the other hand, start another life, something to keep you busy , and your mind as well.

You've done your bit and you've tried to help him. Now it's up to him to make what he can of life. It really sucks that he's not able to go to college but maybe keep telling him that his dreams f becoming who he wants to be can be a reality if he just gets up and tries again. Tell him how much of a role model he was to you and make him understand that you want him to be the guy taht you used to look up to. Get him to understand that getting high will destry his life if he doesn't change and try to fulfill his purpose. He's worth it, he just doesn't know thata nd he's lost hope. So help him stand up again and make him understand that under the surface tehre's a way to persue his destiny.
Best wishes.

You need to tell him that you aren't going to be availble to hang out anymore...that you just don't have the time to waste any longer on things that aren't taking you in a positive direction...hopefully your example (and I am assuming you are going to go on to college) and by you stop playing nursemaid will help spur him to want better for his future...We are not able to pay for our sons college either....He gets loans.

Just prepare yourself....he will be defensesive and angry...but you need to stay strong and not get emotional yourself....just say "I understand that this is upsetting to you...but this is what I have to do, hopefully you will start to make better choices for yourself and we can come back together as friends in the future...good luck".

tell him that you can't hang out with him anymore. he is setting a bad example for you. but if it were someone that i knew i might stay friends, maybe you can show him that that could be him. maybe it will remind him. but don't let him put you down, he would get told up front that he is a loser then

Well,
there is no nice way for a break up..
He is BAD, simple..then all you have to do,,it at least tell him..
You owe him..you owe him to tell him why you dont want ot be his friend anymore,..and then all you need to do is to handle it..look for other friends...Good ones..and good luck.
We are all here for you to be friend..IF YOU WANT...:)
