The mayor of Houston blames the murder increase on Katrina evacuees to Houston. Do you think he is right to say this? [The article doesn't give any such proof, such as people caught, etc]

EDIT 1/2/07
To me it seems like what he, ans some of you, is doing is more like profiling without proof. If what most of you say is the case then the murder rise in SEVERAL cities since Katrina could also be blamed on Katrina, since they are ALL such "BAD" people and the didn't all go th Houston....
Murder rate up in several U.S. cities for 2006
-The increases have affected cities of all sizes in the country.
-Some cities, like Cincinnati, Ohio, posted their highest numbers ever while other cities had their highest rates in years.
-In New York City, a 9.8 percent increase
-In Chicago, up 3.3 percent
-In New Haven, Conn., there were 24 homicides as of Wednesday, compared with 15 homicides in both 2004 and 2005.
-Oakland, Calif., UP 57 PERCENT from last year and the highest in more than a decade.
-Philadelphia's 2006 homicide total was 403 as of Wednesday, the first time the number has topped 400 in nearly a decade. There were 380 in all of 2005.

Perhaps he has deduced this since homicide rates happened to spike during the time the city had an influx of Katrina refugees straining the city's social services.

Seems a reasonable assumption to me.

It does seem Katrina evacuees, have caused problems in some places. If you recall stories of people pushing their way onto buses ahead of Elderly, women and children,, and Houston was the destination, it is easy to believe there were; people of less than honorable character getting to Houston and cause problems.

there have been more articles in the previous year about it

basic investigative questions - and how long have you lived here?
