What product can I use on printer paper and a poster board in order to finish a collage so that all the layers stick together nice and flat and there's a slight gloss? The only thing I can think of is rubber cement but a friend of mine said it might be too thick for paper as thin as printer paper.

Any help would be greatly appreciated :). Thank you.

P.S. -- is it safe to put thin paper (ex: parchment paper) through a printer?

:\ sorry if it's a stupid question; just wondering.

There's a product called Modpodge (not sure of the spelling) that works exactly as you describe. Walmart or any craft store would sell it. It is specifically for making collage projects.

Yeah, don't use rubber cement! That will only result in disaster. You'll want to get modpodge (you can purchase it at a local crafts or arts store. ex. Michael's, hobby lobby...) Or you could get an acrylic gel medium, matte or glossy... which is pretty much the same thing as a modpodge. There are also spray varnishes that would aid in making it look glossy.

It depends on the printer... but most likely it will be fine. I use thinner paper that's not printer paper in my printer all the time. You might want to ask that in a separate question though. You might get a specialist to answer.

i had the almost exact same question a couple days ago, im trying to glue paper to paper. an the spray glue i was useing wasnt makeing it stick good enough, and alot of glues would have warped the paper or caused it to be uneven. someone suggested glue stick, so i did an so far so good, i still spray glue it then i put on a little glue stick for extra stick. but thats because what im trying to glue the sections are rather large, maybe smalller would only require glue stick. a glossy fixative should apply gloss

ModgePodge is the BEST... comes in matte or shiny...give it a little time to dry between layers ...also some inks can run, so if make sure the ink is dry before you put on the Modge. Most Craft stores have it!
Good Luck & Happy New Year!!
