How can I reduce the bit rate of songs to fit more on my ipod shuffle.?

The songs I transfer from my cds into itunes have a bit rate of 1411. (As opposed to 128 when downloaded from itunes). How can I reduce the 1411 bit rate on the songs from my cds?

You want to import your songs from your CD's using MP3 or AAC format rather than uncompressed lossless or FLAC. See here for an explanation how:
