Think of it this way: when you get an Audio CD, those files are in a certain format which you can "Rip" into .mp3 or .aac format. You can take those .mp3 files and burn them back onto a CD. However, you can't play that in a car that only understand CD Audio.

Video DVD's are in a particular format -- mpeg 2 video and a couple of different audio formats. You can also store data on a DvD's which is what you're doing. This is similar to the idea of making a CD that is full of mp3's. It looks like a storage directory on your computer, but not like what a DvD player expects from a Video DVD. What you'd need to do is remaster your video clips into a DvD format. Depending on the format of the videos this could be a complicated process, because chances are the clips will not be in Mpeg-2 format. The mpeg2 files have the extension. vob on a video dvd. There is software that lets you master DvD's, which you may or may not have as well, although if you do have this software it might expect that you already have your video and audio files in the right format. Transcoding them into the right format could have all sorts of pitfalls (video size might be different, or video might be in a compressed format like mp4/divx. This is a complicated area, although I'd certainly encourage you to try. One thing that will help you is using DVD player that can play DvD files off the hard disk. This will allow you to experiment without having to burn a DVD disk all the time. Make sure your DVD projects can be played by the DVD player before you burn. I provided a link to a good site with a lot of different help on authoring video dvd's using different software.
