Sometimes.
There's a difference with being strict and "showing who's boss" than being rude. You need to do the first two so people will respect you.
But, they are those annoying, very rude people that need a good slap or needs someone to be rude to them before they respect you.
Don't be rude to everyone, though, only to those people that refuses to show you respect and are rude themselves.

no. i don't respect people who are rude at all. i respect people who respect me, and who are honourable. i respect people who stand up for themselves and others, and who think about their actions and the effects their actions have on other people.
rude people do not think about these things, and they are one of the very few people in the world i find it hard to respect. instead, treat others how you would wish to be treated, and be honest and strong.
if you do not have respect now then it may take some time for you to earn it, but over time it will happen.

No. If anything, that really counters what you wanna achieve. Being polite outweighs being rude. Be polite to any jack-off and they'll know you mean business. They may show that they don't care, or they may keep on harassing you or whatever, but in the end, you'll be sending out the right signals

I'm not sure if "rudeness" is necessary ( as it has many opinionated definitions), but people usually have more respect for another if that person is willing to stand up for themselves.

just walk way and don't pay any attention to them
they will get the idea when you STOP talking to them all together.
Being rude only makes you look bad- why do that?

No. You respect them, and if they can't show you the same sort of respect, then ignore them. Unless, of course, it's your mom or boss; in that case, you have to either attempt to earn their respect or just deal with them.

you don't necessarily have to be rude, but you need to be firm and let them know you will not be walked on. If they continue to walk over you or disrespect you, then yes it is time to get rude.
