what steps do I need to take to audition for a part in a commercial. I live in Michigan. Thanks.

In your case, since you have the car manufacturers in Detroit, take a look in a magazine such as Backstage for auditions. Most of them require that you be in a union (such as Screen Actors Guild (SAG) or AFTRA.) Bring a headshot with you.
