I'm sorry for the loss of your mother.
You will need:
diapers (like 10 a day)
wipes
nail clippers (those nails grow so fast) and a nail file in case you have trouble with the clippers
10 easy snap t-shirts (pants can come later you'll have her wrapped up in a blanket at first)
a couple lightweight blankets for swaddling (some come with Velcro to make it easy to wrap the baby and keep it on)
a pacifier and a couple bottles and formula (the hospital can give you a sample) even if you plan to breastfeed because you never know
A nightlight so you don't stumble around in the dark when you have to change or feed him
A nursing nightgown and bra
A Boppy pillow, highly recommended if you are breastfeeding because it helps position the bay..it's so worth it
If you can splurge on a comfy rocking chair that helps a lot if your baby needs to be rocked to sleep.
You won't need to worry about bathing your newborn for a week or two so all that stuff can wait. Good Luck!!
P.S. get size 1 and size 2 diapers because you don't know how big your baby will be and you will always be able to use the bigger size later.

I'll put it in 'big' and 'small' items. The big items are the ones that's going to cost more and the small items are the ones that will be less expensive. The reason I do this is because you will need to buy atleast one big item a month as to not financially ruin you. My fiance and I made the mistake of getting everything the last 3 months and I could kick myself. We nearly did not make it, it's more expensive than we thought it would be and you don't want to find yourself at your due date without certain things. Big items; Carry cot Pram Cot Breast pump Baby bath Camping cot. ( though it's not a must have, it's very handy when you travel or go to a friends' house since it's easy to store and always at hand) Changing station, complete with changing pillow Breast feeding pillow Baby monitor Bottle sterilizer ( I don't use one, I sterilize them myself) Medi kit ( it has your themomiter, suction, spoons to feed midicine through etc) Baby bags Small items: These are the things you can buy after your baby shower, because friends will be bringing you a bunch of things and you might find that you have to many of some things like clothes, bottles and pacifiers when they are through. Clothes, socks, beanies, vests and babygrows (stick to baby grows for the first 3 months, it's just so much simpler for changing. And don't bother buying newborn, they grow out of it within a week, go for the 0-3 months from the begining.) Blankets ( get about a dozen, you need more than you think) Spit blankets Daipers Bottles Pacifiers Bum cream Body cream(unscented) Baby soap (unscented) Baby wipes Nipple cream Baby towels Maternity pads for after your hospital visit Bio oil ( start using it now to fend off those stretchmarks) Formula just incase you can't breastfeed and a camara, because you'll be taking lots of fotos! Hope this helped Congratulations and good luck!

You don't need fancy outfits at all. babies don't like wearing them and they outgrow everything faster than you can imagine. All you need are those 1 piece terry outfits and lots of them because they need to be changed about 6 times a day. Undershirts are optional depending upon the temperature.
You'll need about 10 receiving blankets and a few (3-4) warm blankets.
Depending upon your climate you may need a warm suit for outings - however you can just wrap them in the warm blankets.
You need lots of wash clothes (not wipes which are expensive, not environmentally friendly and can be hard on the skin)You don't need to get special baby ones just buy a pack of about 20 at walmart for about 5.99. (maybe get 2 packs!)
Diapers - I suggest you get some cloth even if you are going to use disposables -they will come in handy and tide you over when you run out or you are short of cash to buy more. If you do want to use cloth look into all in ones - no pins no plastic!
Don't buy powder or creams unless you need to. Powder is not necessary and creams can irritate the baby. You may need to use diaper ointment but if you need it you can get it later.
Buy a good quality diaper bag and make sure you really like it because you are going to be hauling it around for a couple years!

It sounds like you have the big essential stuff, but there is a lot of little stuff that is necessary too. Even if you plan to breastfeed have at least one can of formula and some bottles just in case you change your mind. I planned on breastfeeding and couldn't so luckily the hospital sent some formula home with us!
diapers
thermometer
rubbing alcohal
q-tips
recieving blankets
infants tylenol
butt paste
clothes
pacifier (if you plan on using one)
moniters
Tylenol or Ibrofen for you for pain the first few days
Breast pads esp. if you're breast feeding

You really don't need much, people always over spend.
Clothes for baby sleepers and onesies are best.
You may need a breast pump if you are breast feeding (but don't buy right away)
nursing pillow is helpful
the obvious diapers, wipes, bum cream
receiveing blankets
face cloths
Don't buy all the gadgets and such until you know what your baby like, besides all they need is you in the beginning.
A carrier like a sling might be helpful in a few weeks after baby comes.
that's about it-good luck

I would recomend: Onesies, clothing, socks, diapers, wipes, baby bath/lotion, Dreft (for the babies clothing), breast pump, blankets, burp clothes, those little pads that go on the car seat straps, bottles, binkies (if you are going to use them), monitors, a boppy (works great if you are b/f)
That's all that comes to mind at this point hope it helps! Also, if you check out walmart.com somewhere in the baby registy has a checklist.
Congrats & Good Luck

Bottles, burp cloths, bibs, diapers and wipes and desitin, pacifiers, baby shampoo and lotion, Onesies and gowns are best for newborns but I am sure you already know to have clothes :) That is really all you will need for the first few days and oh yeah a baby bath tub but that is not an essential. Good Luck and all the baby really need to survive is your love. God Bless

If you formula feed you'll need bottles. Pacifiers if the baby takes one, diapers, wipes, burp rags. (cloth diapers make excellent burp rags). clothes for the baby, sleepers work best for younger babies if you live in a colder climate, a baby bouncer so you have somewhere for the baby to sit while you are not hoding it. baby shampoo and baby bath to bathe the baby with. That's all i can think of right now.
I got a lot of stuff when my babies were born and half of it I didn't like or didn't even use!!
