My husband's aunt is trying to find where she can buy fabric to make some dish towels for christmas 2007. If anyone can give details of a store in Ohio where this type of fabric is available, it would be much appreciated. Thanks, fair

i can think of two things you mean:

1. some people embroider little dish/tea towels to use as decoration or give as gifts. these small towels with a embroidery-ready cloth panel are readily available at any craft store, like hobby lobby or michael's.

2. if you mean just making dish towels, well, sorry, you're a few years out of luck. i haven't found towel-type terrycloth in fabric stores in maybe 10 years. not many big "warehouse" type fabric stores with lots of cloth selection left in the country. most fabric stores are basically selling fabrics for quilting, evening wear or costumes, and home decor now a days. overall, this means prices have gone way up for fabrics, and the selection of basic fabric types has gone down. even if you could find terrycloth, it'd most likely be cost-prohibitive.

alternately, have the aunt try hunting around in stores like tuesday morning, marshall's, ross, or tj maxx. she can find plenty of big towels of very good quality cloth for very discounted prices, and then cut them to the size/style she wants, hem them up & use whatever xmas decoration she was planning on.

I can't tell you exactly where, but my mother always bought her towels on trips to Holland. The fabric (a cotton blend) is fair better than anything available here. She still has towels from 20 years ago in great shape and they are used all the time. She says they are still available so I assume the fabric is too.

I would search online for European suppliers in any northern countries of Europe.

Try using colorful towels. You can cut them up and make dish towels out of them. Check Goodwill, your local thrift store and other places like that. Look for Christmas themed towels or just some red, green, gold, and soft gray towels, get some holiday themed ribbon (which should be on sale right now.) and go crazy. Here's a chance to express your creative side. :-D

Any JoAnn fabrics will have material for that.

If you want to go with an inexpensive, "recycling" route...go to thrift and second hand stores - buy towels. Wash 'em, cut 'em to size..sew binding or just a close blanket stich around the edges...presto! Dish towels.
