It causes the runs and intense cramping, but nothing will kick start labor unless your body is ready. Trust me, I was impatient and I looked into all sorts of strange ideas.

As far as not harming you or the baby, that's mostly right. It can cause fetal distress and the baby could end up passing meconium which can lead to a high risk delivery. So whatever you do, do it carefully and with the guidance of your OB.

My friend did the castor oil and her daughter had the meconium because of it. Both of them were fine, but obviously, there's the risk of the baby inhaling it, so it's best to avoid the castor oil.

I drank raspberry LEAF tea. Make sure it's leaf, not just raspberry tea. if anything, it'll tone your uterus for contractions.

but just short of being induced with pitocin or your water breaking (which doesn't always start labor and can introduce infection!), you'll have to wait until your body is ready.

(sorry about any typos. 5 month old on my lap is trying to help me type and gnawing on my wrist at the same time!)

Tried it. The first time I threw up and the second time I had the runs. It did not work for labor. If you already know about the sex thing why aren't you doing it? Like 2-4 times a day? Yeah it sonds extreme, but if you want it over and are willling to torment your body with castor oil you might as well have the sex. And castor oil, while it doesn't harm per se, it can make the baby have a bowel movement in utero and there will be meconium. I understand because I'm due on the 17th but nothing works.

I took it and had my son at 2:18 am. Yes, you will poop a lot. It may or may not work. It does for some and others it does not. All I can say is try it, at worst you'll poop a lot and still be pregnant, at best you will have your beautiful baby soon! By the way, it doesn't cause cramps, that's the labor! You won't poop at the hospital either, you should be done with that by the time you get there! Also, I do not know if it was the castor oil or just good luck, but my son was born 28 minutes after my water broke! Good luck!

Don't do the castor oil It doesn't start labor, and you'll be MISERABLE because you can't get off the toilet. It only works in people who are already in early labor, and even then, it causes intestinal cramps and makes for a very messy, unpleasant labor.

Try nipple stimulation instead. It makes your body release the natural form of Pitocin.

In any case, if your cervix is thick, you are not ready yet. You'll need several hours of good contractions to get that cervix to thin out. There is no quick fix, unfortunately. If there was, I'd be a rich girl!

Castor oil is not a good idea for starting labor, because it can cause you to have really bad diarrhea and you will probably be in a lot of pain. I know that it is hard, because I wanted to do the same thing when I was pregnant, but you need to just wait until your baby is ready. I wish you all the best.

I know you say you did your research, but I still feel like I need to say this...Castor oil can be very dangerous to your baby because it can make the baby poop and put meconium in the amniotic fluid and since the baby swallows the fluid it can make the baby sick.

That being said, I did not use it but I know some people that have and they were more miserable with the diarrhea than they were with being hugely pregnant.

But if your doctor condones it, I guess it's ok for you. Personally, I wouldn't use it.

Good luck.

It would be a big mess if you took it and went into labor right away. Your baby is going to come when it is ready. My daughter was a week late and I was like you-I just wanted her out. Eventually she came and now I think back and miss being pregnant-enjoy it while it last. You'll see your little cutie soon!!!! Hang in there!!!!!

castor oil doesnt work, but there are a few things that will. if you do research on them, theyve actually been shown to work. buy razberry leaf tea. not razberry, razberry LEAF. (health food store, gnc) drink a cup twice a day, not only does it help induce labor, but also tones the uterus. (sounds silly, but look it up.) then theres nipple stimulation. nipple stimulation causes your body to release oxytocin, which as im sure you know, causes contractions. lastly, masturbation has been shown to cause stronger uterine contractions than orgasms with a partner.

just cramps and no labor... definitely not worth it!! But anything that makes you throw up can cause contractions...castor oil didn't work but a 24 hr stomach bug did.... throwing up was enough movement for my uterus to start contracting.

I've never heard of it actually working for anyone, but I have heard that it's disgusting. I ate spicy food the night before I went into labor. It was very spicy chicken, so maybe try some of that.
