we have to perform an egg drop project for physics in school right now. the requirements are NO balloons or parachutes of any kind, no stuffed animals, towels, or balls. it will be dropped from appx. 20-30 feet from the ground. it can't be bigger than 18" by 24" and no taller than 30" and can't weigh more than 7 lbs. we will only have one minute to insert the store boughten egg (provided by the professor). the contraption will be thrown or tossed however the professor would like to toss it. i have tried many things and would like some suggestions. please no funny comments or remarks, and please don't waste my time. thank you.

I did this in High school. I built a cage using two paper plates with many straws attached between them along the perimeter. I cut out one egg-thing from a carton and suspendedthat with rubber bandsin the center ofthe cage. the straws will bend and act as shocks no matter howit lands. the egg is suspended in the center so doesn'tend up touching anything (make sure your rubber bands arent too loosey-goosey).
mine was the only one that worked inmy class.

i did that project in high school but we used a parachute but some other things people did was wrapping bubbles, put inside a jar of cake icing, i would try the cake icing idea that works take icing out of the middle place the egg in there and replace the icing so the egg is compacted in there so it will not move around and the icing absords the shock of the fall

Can you use a container with water or some other liquid that you can put the egg in...maybe even push it into a container of jello? What about a block of foam with the egg inserted in the center? Good luck. :)

in case you will get the egg to drop a similar way every time, your existence will be plenty a lot less stressful. this suggests in the journey that your gadget is weighted on the bottom, this is going to ascertain you actually ought to cushion the egg in a unmarried route. For padding, there are diverse smooth issues obtainable-try wool or cotton balls. Styrofoam peanuts and bubble wrap are low-cost issues to %. stuff in; there are a good number of loved ones products which cushion besides or extra effective that merely fee slightly extra.

try straws, build a structure out of straws, and as it hits the floor, collapses. I did this project during university (industrial design) and it worked quite well. try to build small springs around the egg, only with plastic or paper straws, once they hit the floor, collapse, but don`t bounce. if it bounces, your egg will break.
