I want to move from Winnipeg to Edmonton as soon as possible. I have $1800 in my pocket to move. My only possesions are clothing. Would a landlord take me as a tenant without having a job first?
Thanks for your help.

As long as you can show you can pay the rent (which you can't)

I don't know where the other respondant's experience is from but I've rented all over BC and I'm pretty sure that its the same in Edmonton. A long-term lease may require a job but a lot of rental units operate on a month to month basis. If you have the first month's rent and half a month's rent as a damage deposit they will probably take you. $1800 should be enough to get a bach suite or a basement in Edmonton and still have enough left over for a few groceries until you can find work. Shared accomodation is cheaper but if you are confident in finding work (which you should be) and if you want your privacy (like I would) then I think its possible. It won't be easy but with a positive state of mind I think it is indeed possible.

You're not going to find a decent apartment with $1800. When you move in, they're going to ask for 2-3 months rent off the bat. (One is first month, the other is last month, the last is a security fee on the apartment). So that leaves you with apartments that cost $600 rent. Almost impossible to find anywhere. You'll have to find a roommate.

Best of luck to you with that.

You have to get a good job to get a good apartment. Otherwise, an hovel will do whilst flipping burgers.

Your best bet is to find a room that is shared.
