When I try and access the folder i've been denied access and the prompt tells me that the file/folder is corrupt/unreadable?

try viewing all hidden files and folders (in XP from the tools, folder options, 2nd tab) and if the dir is still not empty try rebooting the machine and try deleting the folder then

Left click on the folder, open properties and remove the archive attributes with a check mark on them, click apply. Close the menu and delete the folder. When it ask the folder or all the contents for the attribute settings choose all, just incase there are files in the folder with the same attributes set.

Open a command prompt and type

chkdsk /r/f C:

for the drive that the directory is on (assuming drive C in the example above).

It will have to take the computer down for a little while to this but it should repair the corrupted folder.

It would be better if you have written on what system you work: Win, Mac, Linux, and the version.
Start the program for check disk, or try reboot..

Try scanning it with your antivirus program, but if it's not causing any problems, I would just leave it alone.
