Every child is different. And the amount they sleep during the night can have a huge affect on how many naps they'll want during the day. My son is 8 months old. He sleeps an average of 10 hours a night. And he takes an average of 3 naps a day, all decently long.

An 8 month old baby needs about 14 to 15 hours of sleep per day (24 hour period) The naps they take should be 45 minutes or longer. If daytime naps are too short or he is taking only one nap, try putting him to bed earlier at night as he may be overtired and can't settle down for a nap. So some babies at that age sleep 11 hours at night and take 3 one hour naps during the day and some take two longer naps . It really depends. If you follow your baby's cue, he will get the sleep he needs.
A great book is " Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child"

My daughter is 7 months. Not quite 8 yet, but she wakes at about 8:30, naps between 10 and 11 am , until about 12. Then doesn't nap again until about 3 or 4 ( she's actually napping now lol) and then wakes at around 5:30 or 6 pm. Then stays up until about 8:30 or 9 pm and sleeps the whole night. Then repeats the next day. So, I would say just two. But basically whatever works for your child. They fall asleep when they're tired and wake up when they're not. I don't usually force naps, she takes them when she needs them. Every baby is different though. Hope that helps a little :-)

An 8 month old baby should be having two 90 minute naps a day, plus about 12 hours at night.

They need all this sleep because they are growing, forming connections in their brain and recovering from almost constant exercise!

Two naps per day, each 1 1/2 - 2 hours. (At least that's what my 8 month old needed!)

At that age, my daughter was taking about 2 naps, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, and both were at least 2 hours. It also depends on how much they sleep at night, too. If she didn't get a full night's sleep for some reason, then she would need more like 3 naps. But every child is different, and usually they will give you signs that they are tired, and that's when you just lay them down. When they start rubbing their eyes and acting fussy, then they need to go down right then.

My son has always had 2 naps. One mid-morning after his snack, and one late afternoon after his afternoon snack. We put him to bed at 8:30pm and he sleeps through the night till 7am.
