The kids are getting on my computer when I'm not home and I want to enter a password when I start it so they can't get on it. Windows XP

click on start, click on control panel, click on user accounts. a window will open up. click on the windows xp user name u would like to create a password for. click on create password. if u have more than one windows xp user name, then u will have 2 do the same for all of them.

Even before you log into the windows system. There is a facility in BIOS (Basic Input/Output). When you switch on your computer you see a black screen of BIOS. At the bottom it says to press a button (either a Delete or F9 something). Go inside the set-up of this BIOS. There you will get Set System Passward. Follow instruction. Reboot your system and Enter your password. Voila!...You will be secured..More. No Body will be able to open without your permission.

My computer is not on a domain

If it's windows....go to the Control Panel -->User Accounts.

Select your account, Create a password.

from the Start menu go to control panel, user accounts, change an account, select your account, create a password.

right click on my computer on ur desktop in ur start menu / click on manage / local users and groups / right click in the user menu / new user / choose a name and password .and bobs ur uncle

ps. never disable ur admin account (did this once had to reinstall windows ) and once the account is created id advise u right click on it in the same menu click on properties and check " password never expires"just in case.
