I know that newspapers can work but I've been using windex and paper towels and the paper towels seem to leave smudges. Simple question but nobody said that all questions have to be life changing events. Thanks for any help you might have.

The best way is to use water or Sparkle Glass Cleaner. The secret is to get a special microfiber cloth just for windows. In one wipe it will be clean and you can use just water and not have to use any chemicals. No streaks at all. I promise. You can get them at Linnens&Things. I love them and now cleaning the windows isn't that bad of a chore.

Hire someone. No, just get out the windex and start cleaning.
There are a lot more products now than just windex but I haven't
tried any of them.

I use a little Joy dish detergent in a bucket of water. I also use a squeegee with the sponge on one side. It is important to dry off the rubber squeegee between strokes.

Windows come out of the sill(lol). So you can take them out and watch them outside with a hose. It pretty easy but you need someone to be there.
