ILLEGAL

2007-01-01 07:50:59 · answer #1 · answered by INOA 7 · 1 0

You can legally buy or rent dvd movies from many sources, probably stores right in your neighbourhood. If you don't know how to use your burner, you dont start trying to burn your own right away, you will waste time and ruin blanks. Start by watching, then read everything that came with your computer. Buy a couple of re-writable discs to practice on. If you don't have your own internet service in your own name, do not download any commercial files. If you are in the US, and come under the scrutiny of RIAA, it is the owner of the account that is sued, not the owner of the machine.

BEFORE you go downloading videos through places like limewire, do yourself a favor and protect your new computer by doing the following:

Install adaware, superantispyware, and spybot search & destroy. Get them all from http://www.download.com

Next, make sure you have an active antivirus (just one) running with all the updates. If you dont have, get the free avast (http://www.avast.com). If your computer came with the typical 60 day version of Norton or McAffee, uninstall them (not always easy to do) and just run Avast. Your system will be safer, and will run faster.

Run free Winpatrol (http://www.winpatrol.com) and disable anything that you dont want running when you turn on your new computer. Companies like HP and Dell like to load up new machines with a LOT of junk applications. They get money from other companies as a form of advertising their product.

Run ZoneAlarm (http://www.zonelabs.com) instead of the windows firewall, and make sure you only allow specific trusted applications to access the internet.

Make sure you have ALL Microsoft updates - including IE7. Turn on the popup blocker in internet options.

Finally: Understand that downloading music and movies is illegal. If you are going to do it, you cant complain when you get a virus. You only have yourself to blame.

Enjoy!
