It depends on how hot the item is, and whether it's hard to get or not. Some people will start their bidding at a higher price thinking people are stupid and have not shopped around, and some people are. It's not EBAY putting stuff on there for that much, it's the seller that uses EBAY that's jacking the price up. Check the auctions, you can usually get decent prices there.

Ebay has become very commercialized. I have noticed how the shipping people charge is like 5 times as much as it should be..so you may think you are getting a deal, and by the time you pay the outrageous shipping, you easily could have bought it somewhere else for cheaper. I am VERY VERY careful anymore when buying on Ebay..VERY careful to see where the item is being shipped from and how much the shipping is. You still can get good deals, but you need to be careful. Ebay didn't used to be like that.
JMHO :-)

EBAY has nothing to do with it. It is an online auction house. the private seller is the one who assigns asking price and people bid on the products. Highest bidder wins.
