You see, it is set to a lower level to help make your batteries last longer.

But look in your Control Panel for the Display section. You should see settings for PLUGGED IN and BATTERY.

Good luck and Happy Computing!

Go to Control Panel, Power Options. Under Battery, choose the Always On or Watch DVD profile. Either one will keep the screen at full brightness, unless you turn it down with keyboard commands. You battery will last about half as long as it did before.

Oh my gosh! I just asked a Dell rep this very question as my laptop does this... they explained it is automatic to save the battery as if the screen is fully lit it will run the battery down within 45 minutes. Anyhow, to fix it to be brighter there is a function key which is in blue writing says "Fn" right next to the left control key. While pushing that down hit the up arrow key on the right side of the key board. That will brighten the screen for you.

The laptop power management has a feature to use less monitor brightness to conserve battery power. You should be able to access this feature from the Control Panel and make any adjustments from there, if you need to. Remember, this could effect how long your battery lasts between charges.
