Know what you want to write about!

Start every book with a great idea. Don't just have one idea that you think is "okay". Think of a lot of ideas and write them in a journal. You can combine ideas, edit them, make new ones out of old ones, and more. Once you have a good idea of what you want to write, pick:

Characters- Maybe your main character is a desperate girl or a lunatic. It's up to you. One of the most fun parts of writing is inventing characters. What do they look like? What's their life story? You pick it out.

Format- Is this a memoir? A narrative? Pick a format. Some books are in "diary format" or "letter format". Others use different styles. Once again, you can choose.

Get writing as soon as you're ready! Don't worry about everything on your first draft. Once you fix up your story, and you think it's ready to publish, then go for it!

Good luck! From one writer to another...

okay, try this.
describe some action packed scene
really cool
then go on to describe some really ordinary person
at the end, go back and say, ooh, that whole thing at the beginning
that was just a tv show the main character was watching.

It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife...

I've heard that works well.

Hmm but really...
If I told you you really wouldn'y be starting it I would so here's my advice....sit down, get out a pen and paper/computer and keyboard. And start writing.

You need a compelling character. Now give this character a strong objective, something he or she desperately needs. Now put a huge obstacle in the way. How does she try to overcome this obstacle? If she does, how does it change her desire for her objective? Now stick an even larger obstacle in his or her way. Repeat as needed.

With an idea, followed by an extensive outline.

If it is a mystery, you may have better luck if you start with the ending...

The words have to come from the heart....sit down, relax, pick up your pen, let your imagination flow......write down what ever i is that comes into your mind. The drafting and redrafting come later.

it depends on your subject and content. if none exists and all is your mind -- set to write every day for a few hrs. write, write and more writing -- when you do have a considerable volume..re.read or have it re.read by an impartial party...i am sure it helps.
