Why doesn't SpongeBob look like either one of his parents?

Question

Isn't a little suspicious that he is square whereas both of his parents are round. I'm starting to think his mama was promiscuous.....

All sponges start out round growing at the bottom of the sea. They become square after someone has harvested them and cut them into the shape by which they are sold in the store.

By the way, I think Sponge Bob should be squeezed out until there is nothing left inside of him and then have him left in the sun to dry out. He is after all just a plant and not a real person any more than the Veggie Tales' Larry the Cucumber or Bob the Tomato are real people and can talk. Never say "Ketchup" to Bob because it will freak him out, though he freaks at just about everything. Yet he does make good pasta sauce and Larry is good in salad.
