Home-field advantage implies a level of comfort and support that the "home" team has when playing on their own field. Not only are they on their own turf... which they are intimately familiar with and practice on quite often, they also have local fans to cheers them on, bolster their egos, and to play to.

Psychologically, they have people they KNOW in the crowd and every cheer makes them feel more powerful while conversely demoralizing their opposing team. Hearing the crowd rave at your opponents successes and boo at your own successes is not helpful and therefore gives a slight edge to the home team.

Physically, a home-team is playing on ground that they are familiar with and have practiced on numerous times. Also, it means that they do not have to travel to get to the field and can therefore begin the game somewhat rested after spending the night in their own beds... come to the game fresh from their comfort zones. Meanwhile, the "visiting" team either has to travel to the field the day of the game (traveling even a short distance removes you from your comfort zone and can sap your energy) or they have to arrive the day before and sleep in an unfamiliar hotel/motel/guest bed and therefore not get as much rest as they may have otherwise... which can be a distinct disadvantage when playing such strenuous games.

Hope that helps!

Homefield advantage goes to the number one team of each conference. they get homefield advantage meaning that all there games thewout the playoffs will be in there home stadium. For example these year its the chicago bears in the nfc and the san diego chargers in the afc.

It means whatever team is home has a slight advantage because of the crowd. The crowd tends to scream and yell only when the offence is on the field, so the players have trouble hearing audibles, and the signal to start the play (think "hike"). This will cause them to call time outs that they should be saving for later, and to be penalized for false starts.

Usually more of the home team fans are in the stadium to cheer them on.
Some say the crowd noise can be a determining factor to the outcome of a game; i.e. causing a surge of confidence in their team ability or causing the oppenent to become disheartened or doubtful of their team ability or cause a play to go bad due to not being able to hear clearly the instruction and or signal(s) from the QB, the coach(es) etc.
A. home team generally has a better knowledge and feel of the playing field and playing conditions of that stadium, e.g.
various weather conditions.

In the playoffs it means the team with the best record plays all their games at home instead of on the road, and it's an advantage to them because they get to play in front of their home crowd fans.

It means that the playoffs IE (BASEBALL, FOOTBALL, BASKETBALL and HOKCEY) if everythings goes as plan, the team that has the best record in conference or league will host the most games during the playoffs.

IN this case, Chicago would host the NFC Championship game if they win the Divisional Round Game and like wise San Diego would host the AFC Championship Game

your team plays at home, its an advantage because the crowd will be cheering for the home team. Often the crwod is referred to as the 12th man on defense because it helps to cause offsides and other penalties against the offense
