the nintendo DS. it is not outdated, as suggested by one answer, but the regular DS is almost impossible to find, since it's not made anymore.
the DS Lite costs the same, and is a better version, even if it were only because the stylus is thicker and easier to hold. [there are other differences]
you can get packs of extra stylus' for when he loses those.
you'd be surprised that children who usually misplace things, are clumsy, and forget to wash their greasy hands before they touch things, they actually usually do pretty good with a piece like this. it's just so cool, that they really don't want to break it
there are lots of good DS games, and TONS of good GBA games that he can play on it as well
-----
as far as the PSP goes... well, i don't play with trash

Well he could lose either one. However, breaking a DS Lite is not easy. Also, Nintendo has the best customer care service, if something does go wrong.
The DS is by far outselling the PSP. There are so many better games and a ton more to chose from on the Nintendo DS.
Only Sony pictures is releasing DVDs for the PSP anymore. All the major players int he movie industry have stopped making DVDs since they were losing money. Square/Enix just announced that they sill stop making PSP games due to lack of customers purchasing them.
I say you go with the tired and true system. The Nintendo DS. There is a reason over 90% of the handheld market is owned by Nintendo.

The DS is a better choice. Especially if the child owned a game boy advance, as those games are still playable on the DS. Also, the DS has many more games than the PSP and a lot more fun games. Plus the games are cheaper on the DS. The better titles on the PSP are geared more towards mature audiences which wouldn't be appropriate for a 10 year old.
Definitely the DS.

I would suggest the DS. My ten year old borther has one and never leaves home without it. There are so many games for it that are geared for children and adults, so it is something that he can make use of now and still use later on, where a PSP may not be something he could enjoy until later on.
And, unlike the PSP, the DS has many games that are based on Cartoons and Comics that most ten year old boys are interested in.
I would also say that the price is also a big part as the DS is really coming down in price and can often be found in bundle deals (packaged with games) at WalMart and EB Games. If he looses things as most 10 year olds do it would be wise to go the route of the DS.

A nintendo DS is your best bet. Their collection of games are not just huge, but almost every game they have great gameplay value. The PSP has very little to choose "quality wise" that will keep a kid entertained, whilst the DS has a variety which it's touchscreen feature is certainly unique and quite entertaining on games that use this feature

For a 10 year old, a DS. The PSP might be too complicated for him and it also costs more. I would definetly recomend the DS for his age, they have better games to play and my 6 year old sister has one and my 11 year old brother plays it all the time!!

Then Nintendo DS would be more fun for a 10 yr. old but, if he loses things easily..he should go with the PSP...then again if he drops it, it will break!

The DS is really outdated and most of his friends will be getting the PSP. My son is 9 and has both and surprisingly takes very good care of both of them and he's just as you described your lil bro as far as losing and breaking things. These items are different though. He takes pride in them.

I would get him a Nintendo DS because it costs much less so that if he breaks it, it won't be too expensive to replace. Although a PSP has better graphics, it really won't matter to your brother because he prolly doesn't care.
