You should download a program to wipe the deleted data off the hard drive. There is a program called "Eraser" that you can get off of www.download.com. If the content is so questionable that you are worried about this, you might consider what your legal obligations might be.
The reality is that, yes, a sufficiently sophisticated person could access the information. The only way to destroy it completely would be to re-write the portion of the hard drive the data was originally stored on, with pseudo-random data sequences. This would prevent recovery using advanced technological means, such as an electron microscope. Simply formatting the drive would not be sufficient.

Yes. You need to go to the Prefetch Folder if you are using XP and delete all of the files in it. That won't hurt anything as it will put back files every time you do anything.

Unless you are familar with computer forensics and know how to delete everything, yes there is still traceable contents on your computer.
This is how people get caught by law enforcement officals who are savy on computer forensics. They know where to look because it is on your hard drive.
Suggestion: do not let others use your computer.

No. Once you clear the search history, it's gone. Click the drop down address bar and see if anything comes up just to make sure you did clear everything.
