boric acid, which can be mixed with water and sprayed and then,...get this...diatomacious earth. DE its pool filter stuff. you put it all around your sill plate and it cuts their tiny little bodies. But as I learned, termites just find another way to get in. They live outside under the ground and travel back and forth to eat your house up.

if this was any other bug you were asking about, i'd say to go contact your local universities until you found one with an entomology department. someone in that department would be able to discuss species-appropriate chemicals (and yes, even if it's "all natural" it's still a chemical...cyanide is an organic substance quite naturally found in some plants, and it's still quite toxic to both you and your pets) that would be safe for you.

we're talking about termites, though. by the time you've noticed them, there are A LOT of them camping out in your walls and under your yard. hiring a professional to come in and eliminate them as quickly as possible is definitely the best course, and may in fact be required so as to not void some part of your homeowner's insurance.

There are no satisfactory natural pesticides which are effective against termites. You need to use appropriate toxic chemicals; Chlordane is the best, but can no longer be purchased in the US. A good hardware store will have suitable materials.
