The puropose of the American Revolution was to end the British control of the 13 colonies and create a new nation which later resulted in United States of America. Before the revolution, there was a lot of injustice to the colonies. For example, taxation without representation,

The American Revolution was originally in retaliation against the British because of them seizing our cargo ships. The British were seizing our ships accusing us of supplying the French during the War of 1812. There were also many other reasons which pushed us into this though. Taxation without representation in the British Parliament. The British were forcing our colonists to shelter and feed their soldiers. It ultimately was used to remove their hold over us and establish the US as their own seperate entity though.

Colonists (i.e. Americans) believed that the British were unfairly taxing them, unjustly regulating their trade, and no longer meeting their needs. Consequently, they wanted to be free of England's rule, so they rebelled with the american revolution.
