I found a spider in my garage. Its body is about a 1/2 inch long, and its legs reach out another inch or two. Whaddya think, folks? Is it a black widow?

Your pictures are not clear enough to say for sure, but I do not think it is a black widow. They have very round abdomens, and their exoskeletons are very black and shiny. Chances are, if it was a black widow you wouldn't need to ask, because you'd know just by looking at it.

I had a black widow problem last summer. I found three in my yard and one in my house, and my dog got bitten (she's fine now).

That being said, get it out of your house or into a jar just to be on the safe side.

If it has a red hourglass(this can also range in color from yellow to orange) on its body, then there is a good chance that it is. The size that you mention fits the female black widow's profile.
Do note that it is only the female that is poisonous. The male would have a smaller body and longer legs.

I don't think it is. Just about any search engine will show you a black widow spider.
