I asked my 67 year old father this question last night. What do you think he said?

Yes. There are more people coming here from other countries and not melting into society. They seem to want to be apart, yet enjoy the benefits of citizenship without the responsibilities. There are so many people who are looking for a handout from the government that unless they get what they want they file a lawsuit or claim discrimination. This country has always had some divisions, but it seems more prevalent today than several decades ago.

I haven't a clue what Pop's would or would not say.
However, we are no more divided today than other periods in our history. As a benchmark look at Presidential elections and the margin of victory. You'll find that with the exception of 1964 and 1980, that we have had some extremely close races.
Dwelling on these differences only enhances the opinion that we are "divided". Which only serves to tear us apart.

I think he said yes.....the Vietnam war & Watergate is what caused such a division in our country....it is much the same now Iraq is the new VN, Illegal Aliens and corruption in government is our new Watergate.... at least "back in my day" the government did not blatently ignore the constitution and our laws were enforced! Fortunately Ford had the personal integrity to do what was necessary for our country to reunite! Unfortunately there appears to be no one in our government care what the average American wants...they are all too busy bandering to big business & the illegal aliens!
We apparently all need to start protesting in the streets to "get their attention" - eventho it goes against the grain of most of us middle-class Americans...but the future of America & Americans is worth it....Just ask your grandfather!

Well, yes and no. There's more diversity now across the board, especially when it comes to the principles people live by. There's division in that sense; however, I think for the most part people are conscience about the need to remain generally coheisive as a nation. The nation's safety and survival is depended upon it, especially now with so much room for potential descention from abroad.
We're one big dysfunctional family.

in my view, religions are doubtlessly very divisive. Religions get human beings centred on regulations and practices and rituals whilst God is approximately love, in simple terms as you reported. i think in a single God who loves genuinely everybody an analogous. i replaced into noted in an extremely classic, conservative Christian church yet have been discovering greater approximately this very subject count as of these days... and my concepts is establishing further and extra. I even have discovered lots from a e book i'm analyzing referred to as "The Gospel of Inclusion" by employing Bishop Carlton Pearson. Throws an entire new spin on maximum of what i replaced into taught all my existence, even nonetheless this is clever and in simple terms feels actual. yet I believe you... faith is in simple terms labels and practices. God loves everybody; Christians, Muslims, Buddhists, homosexuals, you call it. I in no way could have reported that before yet I now have peace with that concept.

Absolutely!!!
When there is a greater division between the poor and the rich, there will be a division created by the temptation for greed and false gain, then substantiated by justification by which that deviation from what is right and good took place.

It was actually more dismal during the Vietnam era. It's the anti America crowd that is causing problems now. Otherwise we have always had a lot of different viewpoints in politics.

I'd say the only other time the US was this divided (post Civil war) was from the mid 60s ( Vietnam war) thru 1973 (Roe vs. Wade decision) .

hmmm...Yes.
As long as special intrest groups, and people in general continue to hyphenate their American status there will be division. So long as Sharpto... er sharpsters herd the weak minded into following them into smaller and smaller groups there can only be division.
