I think that it applies to PUBLIC car parking only, so, if you have a disabled badge, you can park anywhere as long as it is safe. Privately run, or Council 'for profit' car parks, unfortunately do not have to make this concession, and therefore, you pay the going rate. it would be better for you to find a nearby double yellow line, that is safe to park on, and leave it there... as long as it's left safe, you should be fine.

I have a badge for my daughter and have often parked in normal bays when the disabled bays are full - without paying. I have never had a problem yet.
Unfortunately, the number of disabled bays in most car parks have not kept pace with the growing number of people who are now entitled to a disability badge.
Example: At Bath RUH, they have recently put barriers across all of the car parks, which are now pay for length of parking. The disabled bays are outside of this and farther from the entrance than the main car park.
There is also a sign at the entrance barrier informing you that disabled people are not exempt from paying inside this car park - ie the badge does not provide exemption.
As you can imagine, being a hospital, the disabled bays are nearly always full.
Nothing more despicable in my eyes than forcing people to have to pay to visit a hospital.

Some people with orange badges will park further out of the way just so they don't have to pay the parking fees. Then just stroll out of there cars as if they were normal able bodied. I'm not suggesting this is you, but it really makes my blood boil. Some abled bodied people are more 'disabled' than the 'disabled' orange badge holders.

Message 4 cinders and anyone else who has same thoughts as her ref disabled people getting out of their cars and walking off as if able bodied.
People dont understand who is entitled to the badge and the dla, there r people who r registered disabled but can walk but have it for other reasons. However i do agree about the scroungers who lie through their teeth to get dla etc and get it, most r the bad back syndrome, their day will come and they one day will get a shock when either a letter comes through the letterbox or u get a visit, for those who r these scroungers, ur time will come.

Hampton Court is not a public place so they were correct.
On the streets you can park in parking bays provided you display the correct disc.
But if you can walk from there - would you?

You can not park in loading bay's, or loading area's where there are yellow stripes over the edge of the pavement. Or any where else where it would cause obstruction to other driver's, pedestrian's, or especially the emergency services.

You would have to present this matter to the lot owners. This would limit the number of handicaps that could visit in a day and what if it was "Handicap Day". I would think the only other thing you could do is pay and then apply for a rebate.

Dang... you guys get two special painted parking places all to yourselves, that I can't park in....and now you want one of MY regular old spaces too? That's messed up!
If you can park in one of MY spaces then you don't really NEED the "get over and park closer on a rainy day" space do you?
I knew this whole thing was a scam! I hope they double...no ...triple your fine and throw your @ss in jail!

You can park on any yellow line and any bay ( as long as it is not privite bay)
You can park on yellow lines as long as it does not have yellow lines on the kerb, every 20 feet there will be a yellow mark on the kerb. You are not allowed to park on them.
