The Article of Confederation was weak because it: 1. was unicameral and had no seperation of power for the government. 2. made no provisions for taxation therefore the government had no ability to raise money. 3. Made no provisions for the government to manage commerce within and therefore caused competition within the states. 4. In order to pass laws it required argeement by 9 of the 13 states. 5. To ammend any of the Articles of the Confederation it required a unanimous vote by all states. 6. The Federal Government was given virtually no power, the states had more power than the federal government.

The major weakness was that it left the central government unable to fight wars, pay war debts, regulate the currency... in short, unable to provide the infrastructure to have a solid economy.

Most of those mistakes were later made by the Confederate States of America, who implemented a very weak central government as they tried to fight a war.
