is an iq of 109 good?

The range of 85 to 115 is the average range, low average to high average. So 109 is a good IQ score. Remember, however, that it is just that, a score. It is not who you are. Much more important than an IQ score is how you use it. If you did an on line test to get this score, remember that those tests are not real IQ tests and so not give real IQ scores. They are fun to do, and they may tell us a little about ourselves, but that is it. There are two commonly used IQ tests - the Wechsler scales and the Stanford Binet and they are administered by a psychologist.

These links will give you a little more information about IQ scores. You may also be interested in the link about multiple intelligences, which looks at intelligence in a different way.

This is dependent upon what IQ test was given, and under what circumstances. To attain a valid, legitimate IQ score, one must use a standardized test approved by educators, and it must be administered by a professional trained to do so. There are very specific conditions which must be met for the final score to be a valid one.
With the above conditions being met, an IQ of 109 is average.
If you did an on-line test, or something in a magazine, or from a club or in any other form, do not put ANY stock in the score.

Be careful of interpreting IQ scores. Different tests will give different results. Visit the Mensa site online to get more information. You'll see there that what is 132 on one scale might be 148 on another. I scored 156 on the Stanford-Binet test, and I think my score on the Weschler was 38 or something like that. In any case, I qualified in the top 2% for Mensa membership.

100 is a normal IQ. An IQ of 109 would be slightly above normal, so, yes, it would be a fairly good IQ.

It is a low average score. the lowest score you can get is I think maybe 90 or 85. the highest is about 160. Mine is 119, so it is high average.

better than average but not a genius....roughly in the top third of humanity

IQ tests, however, only test for a couple of types of intelligence, and even those imperfectly,
