what do you mean because of what. because of racial equality. ever one realized that they were humens too.
Beginning in the 1750s, Quaker meetings attempted to persuade their members that they should not own slaves; some who resisted were expelled. Quakers dominated all the abolition societies. There was widespread sentiment during the American Revolution that slavery was a social evil (for the country as a whole and for the whites) and should eventually be abolished. All the Northern states passed emancipation acts between 1780 and 1804; most of these arranged for gradual emancipation and a special status for freedmen, so there were still a dozen "permanent apprentices" in New Jersey in 1860. [6]

The Massachusetts Constitution of 1780 declares all men "born free and equal"; the slave Quork Walker sued for his freedom on this basis and won his freedom, thus abolishing slavery in Massachusetts.

Throughout the first half of the 19th century, a movement to end slavery grew in strength throughout the United States. This reform took place amidst strong support of slavery among white Southerners, who began to refer to it as the "peculiar institution" in a defensive attempt to differentiate it from other examples of forced labor.

The large, well-funded American Colonization Society had an active program of shipping ex-slaves and free blacks who volunteered back to Africa to the American colony of Liberia.

After 1830, a religious movement led by William Lloyd Garrison declared slavery to be a personal sin and demanded the owners repent immediately and start the process of emancipation. The movement was highly controversial and was a factor in causing the American Civil War.

A very few abolitionists, such as John Brown, favored the use of armed force to foment uprisings among the slaves; others preferred to use the legal system.

Lincoln freed the slaves of the Southern States which he had his troops attack.not the Northern States slaves.he said repeatedly said up to that time that the war was not over slavery but to only keep the union together. But the Northerners were having draft riots.the battle ships even bombarded n.y,c, to kill draft rioters. they were murdering Negroes , In N.Y.C. alone during the war the populace hung and killed over a 1000 Negroes.anyway . he freed the Southern slaves so that they would run away and join the Northern army to fight against the Southerners. which did turn the tide of the war.after the run away Southern slaves joined the Northern army's and when the war ended Lincoln had declared that he was going to colonize the Negroes by sending them all to South America. But he was assassinated before he could implement his plan to rid the country of Negroes.ain't that wonderful that we have so many Negroes in our midst, they make up 12% of the population.mostly they live in larger numbers in the great land of the South.By the way theres five times more KKK members in the north then the South.and segregation is rampant in the North .To this day it is very dangerous for a black to walk in the white areas and neighborhoods in the north, It is a myth that the civil war was over slavery. It was about States rights. and about the massive amount of taxes leveyed on the South by the feds.the Northern States had slaves longer then the Southern States, and they didnt wont to free there negroes.General Grant declared he wasnt going to free his slaves as it was hard to get good help. The victors write the history books.Northerner proved there dislike of Negroes by hanging many 10s of 1000s of them.
