How can we get cable and satellite tv companies give us just the stations we want?

I'm tired of the home shopping, paid programming, and other junk that I just don't want. After all we have to sit through commericals on the stations I do want, aren't they paying for the programing

I dunno how, but I want the box that does it. my Tivo's a joke and overpriced.
