I give my cat hugs all of the time. He'll want to get up in my lap and will accidentally scratch me trying to get his 25lb butt up into my lap. I'll usually snap at him in surprise to the quick shot of pain in my leg. But then I pick him up and apologize with a huge hug and lots of petting. It sounds pathetic, but I feel better afterwords.
