I heard at school (from friends, so this could be false) that because I'd like to attend college out of state (I live in Ohio) I'm going to have to take the SAT rather than the ACT. Does anyone know if this is true? I'd much rather take the ACT.

Yes, I took my ACT in ohio but go to school in Kentucky. You just have to make sure that you don't take the Residual ACT because the scores do not transfer, but a National ACT is accepted almost anywhere. Trust me I learned the hard way, which is why I am taking the ACT tomorrow because I didn't realize my scores didn't transfer.

Well you could simply contact the school admissions of the one you want to attend and ask them which test(s) they accept.

As another mention most accept both now. They did revamp the SAT about a year or so ago adding an essay portion which looks to have made it a little more challenging.

After ACT and then the SAT tests were made easier in the late 80s early 90s , I guess they decided they needed to tighten it up a bit. I knew people who got scores over 30 on the ACT post '90 that I really didnt consider that smart.

You have to find out which test the college you want to go to accepts, most are taking both but some are still only taking the one or the other. My son is a senior and took both because some of the schools he is interested in only take one or the other.

No. You could probably count on one hand the number of schools in the United States that won't take the ACT. So you can take either test, or both.

dont listen to anyone else. most colleges, any that is in the top 250 ranking, accepts both test. However, the father up the latter you go, such as Harvard, the more they look at SAT

Umm… I know one of the boys who would be a doctor someday talked about these tests. One of my instructors also talked about them. I think your best bet is keep on asking and testing.
