Assuming you have the full xp pro and not the upgrade version, then I am sure the full version has the necessary boot files to boot from cd, and seen as you cannot log into windows, you will need to phone Microsoft and give them the code which should be generated when you try and activate, you may be able to do this automatically without even talking to anybody, you just have to listen to the instructions carefully, if however you have had this copy activated to many times, the automation will not work, but you then wait for a Microsoft rep to come on the phone, and give them the code, and just explain you have had to reinstall again for whatever reason, if they are satisfied that you are reinstalling on the same PC, they should give you a new activation code to type into the activation boxes, then if all goes well you will be able to activate with no probs, the whole process takes about 10 Min's, by the way its a free phone number as well.

this is the same answer as every one else will give you ,what has happened is you have left your xp pro for 30 days without activating it,so what you need to do is contact microsoft by telephone(the number will be on the activation screen) and you will have to give them the munber on the activation screen and in return they will give you a 20 digit product key, which is unique to your p.c
enter this key into the alloted boxes and windows will then work as normal, the reason for this blocking of the operating system is to stop piracy and using copied software
as long as your xp is genuine you will not have any problems at all, just dont tell microsoft more than they need to know,if you are using the xp disc on a 2nd system(this is not allowed) dont tell them, just say you are re-installing xp after a serious virus infection
service pack 2 is a serious patch and is needed to be secure on line so dont try and uninstall it after you activate your copy,it will keep you safe
good luck and happy new year!

Contact Microsoft (its usually a free number to a very nice person in sunny California!) and explain the situation. They should give you a re-activation code. The limit on the number of times you can use the original code is a simple anti-piracy device. Someone trying to produce lots of illegal copies wouldn't go to the bother of doing even this every time.

The only way to get by this, is to contact Windows, they will give you a new code. I'm not sure if they charge for this however. This happens when you have installed the operating system a certain amount of times.

You need to change the bios settings to get the pc to boot form the cd-rom drive. do this with the XP disk in and it will let you reinstall. You will have the same problem though when you download service pack 2. You need to buy a new product key or find a crack for the activation.

Assuming you have a legit copy of XP, all you need to do is either be connected to the internet and network while looking at the logon screen or call the number on that screen. You will be given a new key.
The reason they do this is stupid, its meant to prevent more then one copy of xp to be used at the same time. If this doesn't work and your a little bit tech savy, you can google info on generating a new key yourself.

Hi EBISK, if you're in the UK try this freephone number for Microsoft:
0800 013 2222.
I got it via Google by asking "Freephone Microsoft UK", and one of the many hits gave me their page here:
http://www.microsoft.com/uk/press/content/presscentre/releases/2001/02/pr02531.mspx
Good luck, my friend - and have a Happier New Year than this start to it.
