I've had my job as a security guard for a little over a year now. Before that I was fired from a better paying but more stressful job as a groundskeeper and was unemployed eight months. My job is relatively low stress and pays my bills, but I'm not making what I'd like. I want to make more money, yet I know that this job is a steady 40 hours a week during daytime hours (8-4) Monday through Friday. Also there are occaisional unclaimed shifts for overtime and overtime pay rate on holidays. I make $12.50 an hour but with overtime it's $18.75 (time and a half). I get a weeks paid vacation after a year which I haven't used yet but is still available, free dental and my medical insurance is a $50 per month deductable. After two years I get two weeks paid vacation. The raises aren't that great, I only got a .50 raise after nine months, but as I mentioned above the benefits are pretty decent and it's low stress. What do you think?

I work at a drug store and it is super easy. I want to find a new job that I make more money at, but I am having trouble getting one. Sometimes people just need a change, even if it you're giving up a cake job. I need more of a challenge at work. Good luck!

I like the Idea of working on your education why you work your current job. You can never be too educated. Also have you looked into a different security agency? Maybe you can get paid more by someone ells for doing the same thing you are doing now. You may even be able to get a management position in a different agency. But definitely you always need to keep working on higher education. These days a certification can get you a job that pays as much as you would make if you had a college degree maybe even more.

It sounds like a fairly easy job with decent benefits. I think it boils down to what you want to do. You don't mention anything about your background or education. If you have a limited education, you may consider using the job for income while you expand on your education. Even if you only took a couple of classes at a time, it would not take all that long to complete your education. If you are happy with the job, it isn't a bad income. I have always believed that you should do what makes you happy and the money will follow.
