I've been slugging away at a consignment gift shop/gallery for 14 years now. It's hard work and the pay isn't great... but it's a lot of fun and I would never have done anything different. We began as a co-operative with 5 other artists. Now we're down to 2 and that works much better.

Could write a book on it... if you want more insight, just send a message.

depending on the kind of shop- the ratio of what you keep or give the artists depends on tax status and location. 50/50 or 60 for artist and 40% for you. Some people are able to create a non profit gallery. I located 100 new artists by puttin a free ad in a shopper and dozens of artists called or were refered by their friends or patrons.
