They are either going to go back to, or already have gone back to the old ball...however...the NBA has announced they would like to change to a ball similar to the new one they just tried, and are planning on setting up a committee that includes players and a coach or two, to discuss the makeup of a new ball this off season

They did. It will be interesting to see what changes. I think certain players will NOT benefit from the change (maybe 3pt shooters and guys who take long jump shots). I also think guys who are traditionally worse at ft shooting will start to shoot worse again (e.g. baron davis).

they changed to microfiber at the start of the season but they changed it after new years day bask to leather

It had to happen. To many marketable players were complaining. Stern screwed the pooch on this one and he knows it.
