My girlfriend has been known to get stuffy nose for months at a time. The last time she went to 3 different doctors. Finally, it was cured by a $7 bottle of "4Way Fast Acting" nasal spray from our local mini-mart. This time, it's been a week and so far nothing has worked, including the nose spray, Rx Diphenhydramine 50mg (which is essentially Benadryl), hot showers, theraputic tea, and constantly blowing nose. She has allergies, but we haven't been able to identify a trigger anywhere. She just wants to breath through her nose to get to sleep. Any ideas?

It's probably not allergies. She is trying the VapoRub right now.

Keep her head raised when she is sleeping... go buy a humidifier or vaporizer ( I like the hot steam one) and use it at night.. will put moisture into the air and get things flowing( you can also buy the menthol liquid you put in the medicine cup part of the machine..)... you can also go to the pharmacy and get VICKS Vapor Rub... and put some under her nose.. the menthol smell will help open her nose up... a cold takes it's time.. are you sure it is a cold and not allergies? Have her drink plenty of fluids... hot ones might help too.. Hope she is better soon.. take care!

The most common allergies are wheat, yeast and dairy. She should try to eliminate one of these at a time to see if she gets relief. Since allergies are a immune system weakness, she needs to boost it. A few things to look into are : Quercitin ( a bioflavinoid found in fruits), plant sterols, and black cumin oil.
Oh and a nasal spray that would give good relief is Sinus Buster, the only thing is.... it stings for a couple of seconds, but if you two are desperate it would be good.

Did you know that the active ingredient (Dipehnhydarmine Hydrocloride) is the same active ingredient in sleeping pills at 25 mg? Fun, huh? Thats why it makes you loopy headed.

Anyway, everyone I've talked to lately SWEARS by Cold FX. I haven't used it myself, but eveyone is singing its praises. Also, tell her to try using some peppermint essential oil (in a hot bath or a vaporizer, oil burner, whatever...) to help clean out her sinuses. She could even wear it like a parfum if she wanted.

Also, echinacia is good to take at the onset of a cold. Makes it go away pretty quickly and the effects less severe.

My hubby takes Ginger whenever he gets sick. Its best for upset tummies of course, but it raises your body temperature helps to get rid of what is making you sick. He just uses normal powdered ginger(maybe half a tspn or so) in a cup of juice and drinks it down. Don't do this on a empty stomach though. I did that once...ugh!

Lots of vitamin C is always good too.

As with taking anything, be careful and check with your Doctor first!(although most poo poo natural cures...lol)

Have her eat wasabi paste. I know it sounds strange but it really does clear you up. It is spicy but does not linger. I really like it with Inari!

Another great remedy is to squeeze the juice of a fresh lemon into hot water and add honey to make tea. This is great for the flu also. You must make sure you use fresh lemon though and not the ready made juice. This remedy is simple but very effective.

One more thing. STOP using the nasal sprays. Your body becomes used to these and she will not feel normal again unless she is using them. Nasal sprays should only be used short term.

She has food allergies, hard to say which one, but prolly wheat based, and very hard to eliminate all wheat products, but try eliminating all wheat products, stick to vegetables but no fruits for 2 weeks. Also take 3 to 4 milk thistle capsules and 3 to 4 turmeric capsules per day. This will get her liver working in top order and that alone helps alleviate allergies. add other foods, one at a time until you identify the offending product (line).

You should have her see a specialist. An ear nose and throat doctor and an immunologist. Ask to get tested for allergies there.

I would suggest to bring her some alkaselsser(not sure how to spell it) It sometimes works. Or just give her some childerens cough medicine. It doesn't matter how old she is. I was once sick and took some childrens medicine and I could breathe again.
