O.K. That's Not A Virus! You Went To A Site Downloading........ And What Happen Is That Some Anti Virus Planted That In Your Pc. Save Any Data On The Computer On A Disk! Then Restart The System! When It First Comes On You'll See A Message At The Top Are Bootom And It Will Tell You Which Key To Hit To Do A System Restore! I Believe It's Just Enter F10 And Follow Everything It Say's! But Stay Away From Google! To Much Mailware.

Yes, did you ever install Anti-virus software? If you are EVER on-line, you can expect to get a virus if you are not protected.

I recommend that you visit a retail store like STAPLES and buy a disk of a good anti-virus program. I recommend against using an ALL IN ONE Security package, they make your computer run really slow. Get the plain Anti-virus version of Norton, if you can. But if you BUY the disk, then you will HAVE the disk if something goes wrong. You will probably find that STAPLES sells the disk for LESS than what Symantec sells on-line as a download. (It's idiotic to pay, then download, then make it a Vapor Purchase).

Your new laptop probably came with a RESTORE disk. You might just use that to clean things up.

But new computers also COME with bogus spyware ridden trial software. I recommend that you UNINSTALL every program that you do not intend to Try or Use. That will clean things up nicely.

You should have an anti-spyware solutioin. I recommend that you go to http://www.download.com and get AD-AWARE and SpyBot Search & Destory. Install, run, update and scan your computer with both programs. (they are both free and highly rated).

Good luck and Happy Computing!

Nooooooooooo, don't throw your laptop!!! Try this>>Click start-go to run-type in msconfig-click the startup tab-Look to see if the program that keeps poping up is in there. If it is, uncheck it, and while you are there, uncheck any other programs that you don't need at startup, it will make your computer start faster..If you are not sure what the program does, put the name into the google search engine, and it will tell you what that certain program is used for. Also put the name of the program that keeps poping up into the search engine, and see if anything comes up..It probably is a virus, run your antivirus program, and spyware programs. Good Luck..

You haven't got a virus but you have got spyware

Spyware is different from virus's

Unfortunatley you will have to down load some things to get rid of this

visit www.download.com (a trusted site)

in the search bar type

spybot

look at the results and look for spybot search and destroy 1,4 --- download and run and then scan .. this should sort the problem out

again in the search bar type

lavasoft

down load the lavasoft adaware and do the same

What one missis the other will pick up on

Sorry to say, but yes you can actually get a virus that fast. It only takes about 2-3 seconds.

As for the pop-ups, they are either caused by an over-zealous anti-virus that likes to boast about how well its working, or they are cause by a virus itself. Unfortunately, I think its the latter.

You need to find a good antivirus like McAfee to clean out anything that may have gotten in your machine.

Under "Control Panel", click the icon that says "Add/Remove Programs" and then look for the program that is hijacking your browser and remove it. It may or may not be in there.

Another option is to click START ---> RUN ---> and type in "MSCONFIG" and hit ENTER. Click the "Startup" tab and it will display a list of all programs that are set to run when the computer is booted up. Look for the program in there and uncheck it. (You will have to reboot after doing this) ***WARNING: DO NOT UNCHECK ANYTHING IN THE STARTUP MENU IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT IT IS, ESPECIALLY ON A LAPTOP***

If you still can't find it, then contact me via email and I'll see if I can't help you locate it.

What AV are you running? Folks here mostly like AVG. CA has a year for free http://home3.ca.com/Microsoft/Default.aspx?lang=en-US

And I'm guessing that new laptop has a free 3 month subscription to some AV? If it ain't doing the job, bye bye!

Also be sure to install Adaware, Spybot Search & Destroy and MS Defender (If you have XP and above). All free, and very effective.

You may have to fight the battle in safe mode as well. And run a firewall too (be sure its on in XP).

You can even run on-line scanners from Panda, CA, etc. But kinda slow.

Dude!

Do you know anything about computers? One second on the net along with one wrong click can get you infected, if not properly protected.

As a test, a few friends and I built a Win98 se computer with all the patches. We put it online, no firewall, no antivirus, nothing. We gave it a live IP address. Within 22 seconds we had bots attacking our PC. Within 1 minute we were infected with about 80 spybot programs. Within 20 minutes our computer was completely infected and useless.

http://housecall.trendmicro.com run the scan
http://www.lavasoft.com download the free version
http://www.ccleaner.com its free
http://www.avast.com download the free version.

Here is a good start.
