What a wonderful thought.
Mandarin could be the second language of the EU, we could have a third parliament building in Beijing, all dictats would have to be translated into yet more foreign languages - oh yes, and what weights and measures system do the Chinese use? Chinese law could even take precedence over our new Napoleonic laws. What fun!
Oh, mind you, I've just had a nasty thought - most Chinese people that I have met are quite sensible and clever. They would never join the EU in a month of Sundays.

Look on the bright side. If all the other countries join the EU, we can go and join the Asia Union, and by that time there will be no one left over there so we will be on our own eating pie and mash, doing Morris dancing and generally whinge about this and that. And Because Australia will be in the EU as well, and they have all moved over here they will learn how to whinge as good as us. (Must be the Weather). And then, my friends, we will have the Whinge Ashes in which we finally beat them.

As a workforce the large majority of Chinese I have employed (in the restaurant industry), have all had a far better work ethic than any of their European counterparts.
We should not allow them in (assuming this is a hypothetical question), merely for the fact that millions of hard working Chinese would take the majority of jobs!

The European Union is an economic association, who's goals are a single market for goods and services without any economic barriers, and a common currency with one monetary authority...So why not let China join too?

You know what, it would be wonderful if that happened!!!
EU requires their memebers to have an environmental and labor standard based on their criteria....if China were to adopt those standards I'd be very happy :)
But the very fact that China touts no standards to attract American business is proof to me that they would never join the EU.
